what happens to the women and girls of afghanistan? there are already anecdotal reports of taliban fighters grabbing 14-year-old girls i would call it a forced marriage, but it s anot a marriage, it s forced rape and slavery. what happens to these girls? it s part of the reason why we were there for 20 years. we were in the business of standing up an afghan government that would be able to protect those girls. in the end, the afghan government and the security forces decided not to fight for them. the question is should we have stayed there forever in order to protect those advances in part of the country? remember, the taliban, by the time 2021 rolled around, already controlled after the country. it s a tough question, jake, but i think if you ask my constituents, they were not necessarily willing to sacrifice another 20 years of american blood and treasure as to the question of who controls afghanistan. i know that s a really hard conversation, but there are really awful despot
of the embassy, of afghans, it will sap the will of our soldiers to stand up and defend our country. it was massive to believe that eye mass evacuation too early would have led to what we wanted to avoid, which was a major collapse of the government. even if we had begun it early, there still would have been tens of thousands of afghans that the collapse of the government would have rushed the airport. there still would have been the scenes we re seeing today with all the incumbent security threats that are attached to it. in retrospect, obviously the government and the security forces of afghanistan did collapse, so we probably should have started that evacuation earlier. but we were laboring under the belief that they wouldn t, and we were trying not to take steps that would lead to that overnight collapse. so i think that is the difficulty with just suggesting that we should have begun all of this earlier. but the preparation for the worst-case scenario did not seem
in this crisis that we re in that these people put aside any i i idealogic or critical thinking and just get vaccinated. we ll make it easy and convenience. we want them to come forward for themselves, their family, as well as the community. i know you don t want to push people to the point of getting angry, but just to plead with them about what s going on now. this is very, very important, not only for your own health, but for the health of the kuc country. we can do it. we have great vaccines, more than one, we have three, and they re safe and highly effective. i know you re hearing from doctors who think that the biden administration, who have been very aggressive on this issue, but some think the biden administration should be even more aggressive, mandating vaccines for all federal employees, mandating vaccines for anyone who gets on an
dismantle roe v. wade. that, alone, is a huge question. that is the law of the land. it is settled law. we need to know as women and families in this country with he stands on that. also on voting rights, civil rights, workers rights, what he s going to do with corporate america. there s a lot of questions here and i have to say, his record isn t so good and there s great concern among democrats, among the grassroots, among my community, that we re very worried about someone like this getting on the united states supreme court. we need answers. well, stephanie, you and i know each other. you also know what trump said when i asked him about abortion rights and women. he said in his first impulsive answer to me, he later cleaned it up, women should be punished. yet everybody saw that. everybody in america probably saw that comment by him and he won. what do you say to voters out there that went out and supported a guy who said something like that? given the supreme court nomination com
and close mar in this country t one-man rule. thank you, kasie hunt, for the reporting. new york senator chuck schumer is facing pressure as ka circsi mentioned from inside his own party, the freshly motivated grassroots people who want to see democrats fight and bring down all of trump s nominees. thousands of demonstrators gathered outside the democratic leader s brooklyn apartment last night, last night, holding signs and calling on schumer to block trump s appointments, period. what do we want? and when do we want it? now! schumer made it known today on the senate floor. it seems that president trump who has said he would be for the working man and woman has not chosen someone who routily sides with the average american. instead, it seems he has selected a nominee to the supreme court who sides with ceos over citizens.
