Photo: ABM The Malaysian poetry genre had a big say at the inaugural Anugerah Buku Malaysia 2020 awards where poetry collections Malchin Testament: Malaysian Poems and Peneka Silang Kata: Kumpulan Puisi T. Alias Taib won the Best English Language Book and Best Literature Book (Bahasa Malaysia) categories respectively. There were 14 categories contested in the Anugerah Buku Malaysia awards, which announced its winners in a virtual event earlier today. The awards, organised by Malaysian Book Publishers Association (MABOPA) in conjunction with the Kuala Lumpur World Book Capital 2020 programme, aims to honour authors, translators and publishers, and boost mainstream attention towards the homegrown book industry.

Photo: KLAB The Kuala Lumpur Alternative Bookfest (KLAB) opens today (April 9) at Level 4, Sunway Putra Mall in KL. This three-day book fair, which focuses on the Malaysian indie publishing industry, is in its 12th edition this year. It is organised by Patriots Malaysia Association (The Patriots), in collaboration with Kuala Lumpur World Book Capital (KLWBC) and Buku Fixi. “This book fest is an effort to enhance the productivity and reachability of the nation’s book industry. Due to the movement control order (MCO) and Covid-19 this year’s event will be held at a smaller scale. But the main point is, we want to gather local publishers, writers, and readers at one place, ” says Syazrul Aqram, chairman of the KLAB 2021 organising committee.

Sheikh Faisal Sheikh Mansor, honorary secretary of the Malaysian Book Publishers Association (Mabopa) and Kuala Lumpur World Book Capital (KLWBC) 2020 secretariat member, said that Kebun Bandar PPM is an eco-friendly space to encourage good reading habits in the community.
