Eisenhower Evenings at Ease set for April 13 The Salina Journal ABILENE - The next program in the Evenings at Ease series is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13 that will feature guest speaker Shelly Cline who will be presenting about the rise of the Nazi party and propaganda. The event will be online via Google Meet. Perhaps the biggest misconception of Nazi Germany is that the Nazi party came to power in a landslide victory and overwhelming wave of public support. The talk will look at the conditions of Germany in the 1920s and 1930s that made Nazism possible. It will also explore many examples of propaganda used by the Nazis to gain the support of the people for their new vision of Germany.

Likikiri Collective presentation

Tue, 04/06/2021 LAWRENCE The work of the Likikiri Collective and the realities of life in South Sudan will be topics of the free presentation Storytelling & Epistemic Justice in South Sudan at noon Wednesday, April 7.  The online lecture will be presented by Elfatih Atem, executive director of Likikiri Collective; Rebecca Lorins, co-founder of Likikiri Collective and assistant professor of media at the University of Juba; and Aluel Manyok Barach, feminist activist and gender adviser at Likikiri s ReStorying South Sudan project. Individuals may register online to receive instructions on how to join the event.   Likikiri Collective is a multimedia arts and education organization located in Juba, South Sudan, that uses the arts and humanities, cultural heritage and creativity to work with communities on social issues. 

Maya Angelou s Mosiac of Life Writing

Mon, 03/08/2021 LAWRENCE In 2000, Maya Angelou collaborated with Hallmark on the Life Mosaic collection, a commercial partnership that generated criticism given Angelou s success and acclaim as a poet and memoirist.  That partnership will be the topic of the 33rd annual Seaver Lecture at the University of Kansas, presented by Ayesha Hardison, associate professor of English and women, gender & sexuality studies. Hardison will present Maya Angelou s Mosaic of Life Writing at 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 10. The online lecture is co-sponsored by the KU Humanities Program and the Hall Center for the Humanities. Individuals may register online to receive instructions on how to join the event.
