REVIEW | Why the Honda XL750 Transalp is a middleweight adventure bike with real punch

Honda’s new middleweight adventure bike, the XL750 Transalp, recently arrived in South Africa as a more affordable alternative to the powerful Africa Twin CRF 1100, and I took advantage of the balmy spring weather to take a test ride.

Performance figures will be identical to that of the KTM 790 Adventure. It will be sold in two variants.   CF Moto showcased the 800MT at the recently held Shanghai Auto Show 2021. Positioned as CF Moto’s mid-size ADV offering, the 800MT is the manufacturer’s largest-capacity bike till date, and it’s based on the KTM 790 Adventure (CF Moto assembles KTM bikes for the Asian market) with the same 799cc LC8 parallel twin making approximately 96PS and 78Nm. Besides it also gets the usual gamut of tech, such as a 7-inch TFT display as well as heated grips and seats. Riding aids include throttle-by-wire, traction control, cruise control, and cornering ABS courtesy a six-axis IMU.

Last month, the bike was snapped sans camouflage, and not much has changed since then, except that the bike will also be available in a road-biased avatar. The MT800 is based on the KTM 790 Adventure and uses the same parallel-twin 799cc, liquid-cooled engine that belts out 95.1PS and 88Nm. CFMoto hasn’t announced the performance figures yet and we expect the MT800 to be tuned slightly differently than the Austrian machine.
