A Monterey County man entered a no contest plea on sexual assault charges. 21-year-old Arturo Murguia Rodriguez is alleged to have raped a 13-year-old girl in an industrial park near Salinas Road. A judge is expected to sentence Rodriguez in June to 15 years in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

A City of Monterey Fire Department is hosting a vaccination clinic on Wednesday to all eligible populations. 2 people who stole some orange mountain bikes from a store in Capitola are being sought. Each “Specialized” brand Turbo Levo SL Bike is valued at about $10,000. They were said to have been taken from a store on 41st Avenue between Portola Drive and Bain Avenue. Anyone with information on these thefts is encouraged to contact the Capitola Police Department or the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office.

A former North Salinas High School coach has been sentenced to more than 28 years behind bars. That after John Fickas pleaded No Contest to drugging and sexually assaulting 2 students, 1 former student, and a married woman between 2009 and 2015.
Fickas was also sentenced to spend 2 years in prison for a felony count of animal cruelty because he failed to provide adequate care for his more than 40 rabbits.
