The city of Pärnu hosted a first fire festival of its kind on Saturday that drew a considerable crown. It took artists the entire day to set up works to which fire was set at 8 p.m.
Pärnu welcomes event organizers who can offer something to lift people s spirits during the winter low season. It is especially necessary these days when positive emotions are in short supply.
The fact that artists came up with a fire festival is in itself a sign of frustration born out of inactivity. But fire cane be useful in many ways.
Festival organizer Kristo Kaljuvee said that the aim of the festival is to bring light and warmth into the dark period. Fire has a healing and hopeful glow. Especially for Estonians. Considering our Midsummer fires tradition and the ancient lights tradition of the last decade. I believe it is just what the doctor ordered for these dark days, he said.
