STARKE, Fla. – The man suspected in the Times Square shooting that injured two women and a 4-year-old girl is heading back to New York City to face charges in that case, authorities told News4Jax. Bradford County officials said Farrakhan Muhammad, 31, waived extradition and is being taken back to New York, where he’s wanted on attempted murder charges in Saturday’s triple shooting. Muhammad was arrested Wednesday at a McDonald’s in Starke following a nationwide manhunt after the U.S. Marshals Service notified the Bradford County Sheriff’s Office that he had ties to the area.

The NYPD said they had been tracking the alleged shooter and his girlfriend since they fled Times Square Saturday evening, after shooting three bystanders including a 4-year-old girl. NBC New York s Jonathan Dienst reports. The two were believed to have been heading south in an SUV and there was a confirmed sighting of the duo in North Carolina on Tuesday. (They apparently stopped for dog food for two dogs traveling with them, police said.) Meanwhile, investigators realized he had connections to some addresses in Florida. New information recently emerged that Muhammad was in the Starke area, and local detectives and U.S. Marshals had been combing the community, officials said.

Muhammad said he still doesn’t understand what’s going on. He also told the reporter he was not in New York City at the time of the shooting and talked about his arrest Wednesday at the McDonald’s in Starke. “We went over, the reason we was by the McDonald’s was we went to go check out an apartment. There was a home over there we was trying to buy. There was a Confederate flag up there. He said no women could stay there. That is why we didn’t get it,” Muhammad said. “We parked by McDonald’s so we could eat McDonald’s real quick and that’s what happened.”
