GDPR. CCPA. CPRA. And now⦠CDPA? Data privacy law acronym bingo lives another day.
Virginia this month passed the Consumer Data Protection Act (CDPA). The bill grants consumer rights to access, correct, delete and obtain a copy of personal data and to opt out of the processing of personal data for purposes of targeted advertising, the sale of personal data or profiling of the consumer. It marks the fourth comprehensive state consumer data privacy legislation in the United States, joining California, Maine and Nevada.
The bill becomes effective Jan. 1, 2023. Turns out thatâs the start of a big year for marketers because the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), which extends provisions of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), becomes fully operative that day.
And thatâs not to mention the possibility of a US federal privacy law.
What does this mean? Responsible marketing. And what does that mean? Responsible consumer data collection. Responsible governance. And ensuring the ability to comply with requests from consumers and prospects who care about their data privacy.
Are you tech ready? Is your marketing staff trained to handle personal-data requests from your customers and prospects who trust your brand to be compliant? How do your customers stand to benefit from your practices around these new laws?
In this latest CX Decoded Podcast, weâll help marketers cut through the data-privacy haze with CMSWireâs Rich Hein and Dom Nicastro, who are joined by digital policy and data privacy expert Kristina Podnar.
Kristina Podnar joins Jim Blasingame to reveal that whatever your business’s digital transformation should be is whatever your customers tell you they expect from you.
