"We are still in an exploratory phase," said farmers market Executive Director Nesh Dhillon as he addressed the board. "This is not binding, this is not definite; we are just starting an official dialogue. That's the important thing to understand here."
"The board is about to embark on a very challenging decision, one with lasting and profound impacts on our district," said Paul Garcia, who resigned from the Live Oak School District Board of Trustees last Wednesday. "My hope is that the selection process not only be reflective of our community's current objectives but to ultimately bring this district back to a level of homeostasis and guide it into the future."
"Where we as a board and administration messed up was in not catching this sooner; not notifying you, the community, the teachers; not being on top of what is happening now," said Trustee Jeremy Ray. "But we could not have prevented the change to our budget. There's nothing that we can do to control that."
In the face of a looming budget crisis, the Live Oak School District's governing board declined to approve a series of recommended employee cuts, at least for now, at its meeting Wednesday.
