CaroMont Health took delivery Thursday morning of its first shipment of a long anticipated new coronavirus vaccine.
Mark Chaparro, director of pharmacy services at CaroMont Health, and Kristin Eginger, pharmacy operations manager, wheeled-in and cracked open boxes filled with vials of vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech shortly before noon.
The first inoculations of the system s frontline healthcare workers will begin Friday morning, CaroMont officials said this week.
While multiple companies have vaccines in some stage of development, Pfizer s was the first to be approved for emergency use by the Food and Drug Administration, a decision that came late last week.
Since then, millions of vials of vaccine have been delivered to hospitals and healthcare systems nationwide.
