As with nearly all other events held during this unusual year, the 2020 Christmas Bird Count was forced to adapt to safeguard the safety of its participants.
In a typical year the Upper Missouri Breaks chapter of the National Audubon Society would invite dozens of birdwatchers, both experienced and those just starting out, to join them in the annual bird counting ritual. This year that number was pared down to just 26, but even with a reduced cadre the group was able to identify 60 individual species of birds inhabiting the fields, woods and waterways in and around Great Falls
