The board voted against a resolution Tuesday that would make indoor and outdoor mask-wearing optional if the state does not require them. The Virginia Beach School Board voted down an effort to make mask-wearing optional next fall. The decision doesn’t mean masks will be required, just that it’s still up in the air. Board member Laura Hughes first introduced a resolution in June that would have made masks optional absent any state requirements. The board deferred any decisions until July with hopes that the state’s plans would be known by then,
