months. what kind of response did they get? fox 5 s wisdom martin working that one tonight. brian, it s called prince george s county stop the violence day, an innovative idea to get people to call in crime tips through local radio stations to the police department. the hope is that this will help solve crimes by bridging the gap between listeners and police. usually when the phones light up at the radio stations, it s for song requests for contest give-aways by the dee-jays. prince george s county police. reporter: but those weren t the only calls coming in today. prince george s county police set up camp at five radio one stations. they were taking calls from listeners who may have important information about crime. most of the listeners are calling in with criminal activity in their neighborhood and therefore, we re taking their information. we are dispatching their information to the districts in which those activities are occurring and we re going to have officer
reporter: fine, but what about the leases? gray said the rates go down tremendously in the second and third year of the contracts. we have to average about over the entire lease period and that is not $1,900 a month for the second year and not even i think it goes to 12 or 1300 that goes down to 6 orsen hundred dollars, $800 for the third year. reporter: we don t know how that shakes out and the lease agreement on the vehicle. so far, no response. the second vehicle, the one that brown didn t want apparently can t be returned to the leasing company until october. it s back in the dpw fleet being used as the backup. reporter: and listening to the interview, it doesn t sound like the mayor s that outraged by the controversy, is that your impression? reporter: a couple of things. vincent gray knows that he had some access to a vehicle when he was couple chair and so did his predecessor, but they were not top-of-the-line luxury vehicles and another thing, vince gray i
couric: good evening, everyone. they were four americans sailing around the world. it was the dream of their lives but it came to a deadly end end today, killed by the somali pirates who seized their yacht last friday. they began their journey more than six years ago, handing out bibles in remote areas along the way. the other couple from washington state joined them last year. family members say they knew the dangers but just last week decided to break away from a larger group of boats and go off on their own. these are the first americans killeded be by somali pirates since a wave of attacks began several years ago. david martin is covering the story. david, the u.s. navy had been watching the yacht since it was seized. what happened? reporter: well, katie, what appears to have been a dispute among the pirates triggered the shooting to kill the four americans. it was the deadliest act of piracy yet and it ended with a knife fight between a navy seal and one of the pirat
october 15th, 2010. the rain is out of the picture for yesterday, it is chilly out there this morning though. thank you for waking up with fox 5 morning news i m steve chenevey. i m sarah simmons in for gurvir this morning. starting to look like fall, tony. some of the trees are turning in my neighborhood, the trees are turning. and so it s pretty. it s going to be breezy today and a cool day, although temperatures closer to normal than yesterday. let s look at what s going on out there, satellite and radar. we have clouds in over us this morning. i think we ll see, you know, at least part of the sunrise during the 7:00 hour. we have clouds across the region, nothing in the way of precipitation. there is some precipitation out to the west in west virginia, western portions of pennsylvania. i think most of that does not make it over the mountains. some of it later today could. you could see a pop up shower or sprinkle here or there later today. don t be surprised by that
