Agriculture Minister B.C. Patil said on Monday that his department has planned to provide soil testing laboratories on wheels to all Raita Samparka Kendras in the State. Speaking after releasing to the market “Kaarla Kaje” brand of boiled rice marketed by Parampara Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. at Karkala, Udupi district, the Minister said that 20 such mobile laboratories named “Krishi Sanjeevini” have been given to as many kendras in Koppal district now on a trial basis. KARKALA: Agriculture department has drawn up an ambitious plan to provide Krishi Sanjeevini – lab to land – mobile soil testing laboratories to all raitha samparka kendras in Karnataka. As a pilot, 20 such vehicles have been given to as many Kendras in Koppal districts.
The department has urged chief minister B S Yediyurappa to allot funds to purchase 519 vehicles for the remaining Kendras, minister for agriculture B C Patil announced here on Monday.
Launching the ‘Kaarla Kaje’ boiled rice brand and ‘Karkala Bili Bende’ seeds, Patil said the CM has in-principle agreed to sanction funds to purchase these vehicles. × The Karnataka government is planning to connect more than 500 ‘raitha samparka kendras’ (agricultural extension centres) in the State with mobile soil testing facilities, according to BC Patil, Karnataka Agriculture Minister.
Speaking at the launch of ‘Karla Kaje’, a local variety of rice from Karkala taluk, at Karkala in Udupi district on Monday, he said that the Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, recently launched 40 ‘Krishi Sanjeevani’ vehicles to cater to the needs of farmers in the State. Based on the requests of farmers, these vehicles will reach their fields to test soil, and to suggest measures to tackle pest attack and diseases in their fields.
