The holiest date on the Christian calendar is taking on even more potency and poignancy amid the blossoming signs of emerging from the coronavirus, a Harrisburg pastor says.
His church is welcoming back its congregation for in-person worship for the first time in a year this Easter, and his Sunday sermon draws a direct parallel between Jesus’ resurrection and society’s rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic.
when they got the news. i was able to speak to kris if ar short time before they lost the call. he was upset but trying to assure us he was okay. joanne kirksteader, pamela cramer and her son thomas. a team from the church had gone to uganda to construct a brick wall around a school and church. nine members returned last week. but because the project wasn t finished, six members stayed behind. it was part of a bond that christ community christ methodist church in this small rural community formed with a congregation in uganda. we ve had a relationship with a congregation, a sister congregation. and throughout these past years, alternating years, mission teams had traveled from this church to that church to work together. reporter: the group also works with orphans, part of the allure for kris sledge. his then foster parents, now
people. what are you hearing? well, members of this congregation who had gone to uganda to do mission work, five were seriously injured. last night they had a goodbye dinner. and they were said to be within feet of the bombers. oh, chris. when debbie saw pictures of her injured son, it was more than she could bear. he ll be okay. but he s not smiling. reporter: they spent most of the day at the church where they first met 18-year-old kris who became their foster son. and it s the same church that brought him to uganda to do mission work. the binghamptons were at dinner
