The Market took a smaller approach in its opening weekend, taking up just one block between Womens and Hill parks in downtown Helena. MTN talked with several vendors and customers who were strolling the market on Saturday morning and nearly everyone expressed joy to see the market back up and running, one of which was Peter Strauss, owner of Mike s Adirondack Chairs.

Helena Farmers Market slated to return Saturday MTN News and last updated 2021-04-29 20:25:31-04 HELENA — After taking a reprieve last year as a result of COVID-19 restrictions the Helena Farmers Market will return on Saturday. Farmers Market Manager Kris Peterson told MTN though the market is returning, it will look a little different compared to years past. Due to low staffing, the market will be confined to Fuller Avenue between both Womens and Hill parks to start, vendors that normally take up larger spots will be condensed and masks will be required for patrons, vendors, and market staff. Despite the changes, Peterson says everyone affiliated with the market is excited to get the market back and hopes it will look more normal in the future.

GRAND RAPIDS Amelia E. Peterson, 98, passed away Monday, December 14, 2020, at her residence. Amelia was raised on a farm on the outskirts of Lake Linden. She enjoyed school, writing, and was the first in her family to graduate from high school. After graduation she moved to Detroit, where she worked for Fisher Body (GM), and then Grinnell Brothers. In 1946 Amelia met Reuben Peterson from Calumet, in Detroit. They were married in 1947 on her parents’ farm and then settled in Detroit to raise a family. She had a variety of part time jobs to supplement income as their family grew. She worked in Hudson’s Department Store, the local grade school cafeteria, and was a line editor for the Southfield Sun newspaper. They returned to the U.P. in 1975 and managed the Laurium Elders Home together before retiring.
