University District bar suing NHL s Seattle Kraken

A University District punk rock bar, called The Kraken Bar & Lounge, is suing Seattle’s new hockey team for $3.5 million, alleging the organization is harming its brand.
In the lawsuit, the bar stated the name has caused confusion.
According to court documents filed Thursday afternoon, it claims some people think the bar is team sponsored, adding this is hurting a brand which it’s been building since 2011.
The lawsuit claims that when Seattle Hockey Partners announced it would call its hockey team the Seattle Kraken, the bar started getting new patrons visiting the bar in hockey-themed clothing and suggest the bar “could or would become their new ‘hockey bar.’”

The Kraken Bar & Lounge is suing the similarly named hockey team, after the Seattle Kraken announced plans to open The Kraken Bar and Grill less than five miles away.

What’s better than professional hockey at Northgate? Maybe hanging out in a restaurant run by Mick McHugh, formally of F.X. McRory’s, while watching professional hockey at Northgate.
McHugh announced on Thursday he’s opening the Kraken Bar and Grill at the new Kraken practice facility. He told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson that the digs will have the spirit of F.X. McRory’s.
“Anyone can come in and watch the Kraken practice,” McHugh said. “No charge, anytime they’re in town. They’re going to have kids leagues, adult leagues, figure skating the place is going to buzzing. We’re going to be open every day of the year.”

On Thursday, Mick McHugh announced he’s coming back to lead the Seattle Kraken’s new flagship restaurant at Northgate.
“It will be the Kraken Bar and Grill, official name, but it s going to have the FX McRory s spirit in a hockey bar,” said McHugh on Thursday.
It’s been four years since he had to close the decades-old FX, as it came to be known. It was one of the first sports bars in North America when it opened in 1977. The new Kraken Training Center in the city s Northgate neighborhood will serve up three ice rinks, beginning this fall. They ll host hockey games morning to late night, the Kraken s inaugural training camp, practices for the NHL team and all levels of youth, figure skating programs, public skating, learn-to-skate clinics and classes, learn-to-play sessions, curling, broomball and more, much more.
