Mentally ill man from Nepal sent back after recovery Updated: Updated: Share Article AAA A 33-year-old man from Nepal who came in search of a job in the country turned mentally ill and was rehabilitated at a centre in the city and after recovery was sent to his native country on Friday. S. Suman of Lakshmi Bazaar in Gorkha district in Nepal along with a few others were brought to the country by a middleman for job in Kerala in 2019. However, he got separated from his team members while travelling in the train and landed in the State. In February, 2020, he arrived at the Erode Railway Junction, with severe injuries and was admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital. He was mentally ill and interaction by psychiatrists revealed that he was assaulted by the public at various places after which he boarded the train to Erode.

The rehabilitation centre for alms-seekers at Soolai in Erode.   A rehabilitation centre where rescued alms-seekers would be given training to start their own business was inaugurated here on Sunday. M. Elangovan, Corporation Commissioner, and R. Sivakumar, Superintendent of Police, Prohibition Enforcement, Salem Zone, inaugurated the centre at Ram Nagar in Soolai. It was established by Atchayam Trust, an NGO involved in rehabilitating alms-seekers in the district. Founder of the trust P. Naveen Kumar said the centre had 25 beds and currently 18 alms-seekers were accommodated. The trus members had rescued 585 people in the past seven years and provided sessions on counselling, yoga and meditation. Also, counselling was provided to many persons to give up smoking and drug addiction in all these years. The doctors performed an operation through advanced endoscopy and minimal invasive surgery successfully. The woman was admitted into the hospital after she complained of intense abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting which were symptoms of a severe kidney problem. The patient was earlier undergoing treatment by a local doctor, but he was not tested despite the symptoms.
