MANGALURU: District minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari urged chief minister B S Yediyurappa to sanction more oxygen and vaccines for Dakshina Kannada.
A delegation including fisheries minister S Angara, Puttur MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor and Bantwal MLA Rajesh Naik met Yediyurappa in Bengaluru on Thursday, and apprised him of the situation in Dakshina Kannada, regarding the shortage of oxygen and vaccines.
“There is a shortage of oxygen in hospitals in Dakshina Kannada. Hence, an oxygen tanker should be sanctioned for the district. The government should supply 50,000 doses of Covaxin and one lakh doses of Covishield to the district,” the delegation demanded.
MANGALURU: Even as the city witnesses surge in Covid-19 cases, the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has appointed nodal officers for all the 60 wards, to fight pandemic effectively. The city corporation also decided to introduce mobile swab collection units in all the urban public health centres (UPHC).
After six days, Dakshina Kannada reported less than 1,000 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday with the district reporting 915 positive cases and five deaths. While the district has 12,628 active cases, majority are in Mangaluru city.
Dr Ashok H, district nodal officer for Covid-19, told TOI that the number of containment zones in the district increased from 94 to 100. Mangaluru taluk has 46 containment zones with 372 cases and Bantwal has 27 such zones with 176 cases, Dr Ashok said adding that most of the active cases are in Mangaluru city limits.
