MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada reported 1,175 fresh cases of Covid-19 and the district has increased the total number of containment zones to 94 on Monday. As per the central guidelines, each dwelling with more than five Covid-19 positive cases are declared as containment zones.
District nodal officer for Covid-19 Dr Ashok H said that the department has declared 32 new containment zones after more than five cases are detected in each single dwelling on Monday. Most of the containment zones in the district are houses. While 11 more containment zones are declared in Mangaluru taluk, Bantwal added nine zones, three in Belthangady, four each in Puttur and Sullia. The district also has reported five deaths taking the death toll to 790. The district’s number of active cases increased to 12,742, he said.
MANGALURU: Dakshina Kannada district reported a new high of 564 Covid-19 cases on Sunday.
With the district reporting the highest single-day spike, the total number of active cases increased to 3,975. Meanwhile, the district also reported one Covid-19 fatality taking the death toll to 748.
The district had recorded 517 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Saturday.
District minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari said the district administration has reserved 50% of the beds in all the private hospitals for Covid-19 cases in addition to providing treatment in the Wenlock District Hospital, four taluk hospitals and six community health centres.
A Covid Management Committee headed by deputy commissioner Dr K V Rajendra has been monitoring the situation to ensure beds, ventilators, supply of oxygen, remdesivir and other medicines. Meanwhile, MLAs in the district have been directed to hold grievance meetings in their respective constituencies, he said.
Leaders from religious organisations and the VHP on Saturday submitted a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner to allow religious functions in the district.
MANGALURU: The religious organization in the Dakshina Kannada District, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) are mounting pressure on the District Administration to allow holding of religious functions taking umbrage to the Government’s Order of banning religious functions, while allowing others functions like political, marriages, birthday parties with limited participation.
Sources said the District Administration refused to entertain their plea saying that their hands were tied until the Government reversed the order regarding holding of religious functions.

MANGALURU: The Covid-19 spike continued in Dakshina Kannada with the district reporting 256 fresh cases on Friday, the highest single-day spike of the year.
As per the bulletin issued by the state health department, while Dakshina Kannada reported 37,562 cases of Covid-19 so far, at present, there are 1,414 active cases in the district.
District minister Kota Shrinivas Poojari, who tested positive for the virus on April 10, held a video conference with officials on Friday. The minister directed the health department to increase the number of tests in the district. “Give more emphasis for testing, tracking and treatment. Conduct tests on primary and secondary contacts of the positive cases,” he said from Adarsha Hospital in Udupi.
