Croatia has beautiful nature, beautiful people and beautiful towns and villages. Some place names around the country though will make you chuckle.
Even though it is unusual today, back in the day some of these names probably sounded different. They were connected to animals, geographic structure, and sometimes even to body parts.
Here are just some of them to see what exactly what we mean.
Babina Greda – Translation: ‘Grandma’s Balk’ – A village in Vukovar – Srijem County.
Babina Guzica – Translation – Grandma’s Ass – It is an island which is part of Kornati National Park.
Donja Batina – Translation: Donja means ‘lower’ whilst Batina is a stick or baton or a word to describe a bludgeoning or beating – It is in Krapina – Zagorje County, near Zlatar.
