IT has been just over a year since Lee Chi-beom took up his posting as South Korea’s Ambassador to Malaysia.
Despite the slowdown in activities caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the envoy has been trying to break new ground especially with both countries marking their 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

The Embassy of Indonesia in Seoul will go green and manage its properties next year accordingly, the embassy said this week.
It said the changes are already underway or will be made soon and include recycling waste, using less paper, installing solar panels for electricity, replacing gasoline-powered cars with electric ones and adopting an eco-friendly heating system.

The South Korean government is poised to launch the first batch of its 20 trillion-won ($18 billion) government policy fund aimed at supporting Korean New Deal projects by March, the Finance Minister said Wednesday.
With the first batch to start in March, the government is looking to raise 4 trillion-won commitments in the first year of the five-year scheme, Finance Minister Hong Nam-ki, who doubles as deputy prime minister, said in a pangovernmental meeting held at Seoul Government Complex.

South Korea’s 2021 economic policy plan focuses on providing active financial support to help overcome economic slumps caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
“We must use all available policy measures, including fiscal and financial ones, and promptly put the next year’s expanded budget where necessary,” President Moon Jae-in said during a briefing on the government’s economic policy for 2021 and an expanded session of the National Economic Advisory Council. “Both private and public sectors should work together to pull off a clear recovery in the livelihood of the people,” he said.
