Football Rosters for Tokyo Olympics Expanded

July 02, 2021 10:59 More players will be able to join the U-23 national football squad for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics after a change in the number of players allowed on Olympic rosters. The Korea Football Association on Thursday said it had been notified by FIFA that Olympic football squads will be expanded from 18 players to 22 for the Tokyo Games. FIFA reportedly appealed to the International Olympic Committee to allow the expansion after a number of teams complained about challenges they faced due to the coronavirus pandemic. An Olympic squad normally features 18 players and four alternates who can be substituted for injured players. Under the change, alternates will be considered part of the full roster, although only 18 players can still be made available per game.
