A local civic group on Wednesday filed a complaint of child abuse against the alleged blackmailer of late actor Lee Sun-kyun, saying that the suspect had mistreated an infant by taking the baby to court. The suspect, recently arrested for extorting 50 million ($38,000) from the world-renowned actor, was seen carrying an unidentified baby when she arrived at Incheon District Court on Dec. 28 for her warrant hearing. &.
Adoptive mother given life sentence for fatal child abuse May 14, 2021
A woman who abused her adopted daughter to death was sentenced to life in prison Friday in a fatal child abuse case that shocked the country.
The Seoul Southern District Court ruled that the woman, surnamed Jang, intentionally harmed her daughter, named Jung-in, dismissing her claim that the baby’s death was an accident.
The 16-month-old toddler was adopted in February and died in October last year of severe abdominal injuries and internal bleeding that were caused by “strong external force,” according to an official autopsy.
Signs of prolonged abuse, such as fractured bones and bruises in various stages of healing, were also found on her body.

The death of a 16-month-old girl following abuse by her adoptive parents has fueled a nationwide call to improve systems protecting children from abuse.
Experts point out that the country needs better coordination between police and public servants or private organization workers in charge of monitoring child abuse, to supplement the lack of authority of social workers and a lack of understanding of child abuse among police officers.
Several stars have made donations to help victims of child abuse and other children who are suffering, following public outrage over the death of the 16-month-old child Jungin due to suspected abuse.
It was recently shared that Lee Young Ae made a donation of 100 million won (approximately $91,500) to the Asan Medical Center for pediatric patients and also healthcare workers dealing with COVID-19.
The actress stated, “I decided to make the donation in the hope that the money could be used to help children like Jungin who, while ignored by society, are struggling and neglected or ill. I also hope that it will be even a bit of support for the healthcare workers who are engaging in the fight with COVID-19 while putting their own safety at risk.” Lee Young Ae’s agency also previously confirmed that she visited Jungin’s grave with her husband and children to pay tribute.
