Kootenay Lake School Board begins process of finding new Superintendent of Schools/CEO

by Nelson Daily Staff on Monday April 12 2021 Dr. Christine Perkins, who has been Superintendent since 2017, resigned to accept a similar position with School District 22 - Vernon effective August 1, 2021. Kootenay Lake School Board is now looking for another captain to manage the bridge of the Nelson-Creston area District after current Superintendent of Schools/CEO, Dr. Christine Perkins resigned. Monday, the Kootenay Lake School District announced that Perkins has accepted the the Superintendent/CEO position with School District 22 - Vernon effective August 1, 2021. “The Board of Education would like to thank Dr. Perkins for the last four years of her leadership,” said Board Chair, Lenora Trenaman in a media release.

Wearing masks now required for Grades 4-12 in Kootenay Lake School District

by Nelson Daily Staff on Wednesday Mar 31 2021 Perkins said this mask policy change is for at least the next three weeks while the province goes through its “Circuit Breaker” process while trying to contain the increase in COVID-19 cases. Kootenay Lake School District Superintendent Christine Perkins said Wednesday masks are now “required” to be worn for all students Grades 4-12 attending school. In an email statement to Kootenay Lake District Parents Advisory, Perkins also said the wearing of masks is “highly recommended” for students in Kindergarten to Grade 3. “We need to stop what is going on in the province, and now it is a requirement for Grade four to Grade 12 students to be wearing the masks,” Perkins said, adding this policy change is for at least the next three weeks while the province goes through its “Circuit Breaker” process while trying to contain the recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
