Baby, it’s been chilly and wet outside for about the past week, but the forecast calls for increased sunshine and fewer showers through the holiday weekend, but no snow on the mauna.
Areas of extreme drought were eliminated thanks to the rainfall brought by the storm but most of the island continues to suffer from moderate drought, with severe drought still affecting areas in the interior and along a portion of the northwest coastline.
Due to the severity of the drought in some areas of the state, additional significant rain events will be needed for full drought recovery, which is not likely within the winter months due to the ongoing strong El Niño event.
Hawaii s Big Island saw around five inches of snow fall on the peaks of Manua Kea and Manua Loa. The snow is not uncommon, although is rare in other, lower, parts of the state.
