A woman has been charged with the bashing of Kon Kritikos in his Coburg home at 11pm on 11 November last year.
At the time, the 87-year-old man was rushed to hospital but died two weeks later on 24 November.
Police say he was attacked while his wife was sick in hospital at the time and the elderly man was alone and vulnerable. He lay injured and helpless in his home for eight hours before being rushed to hospital.
Detectives say that the killer knew that Mr Kritikos was alone in his home.
Mr Kritikos died two weeks after he was bashed at his Coburg home, and Danielle Birchall – the woman detectives charged with one count of murder – was interviewed by detectives at the time.
