Brig. Gen. Cesar R. Esperon said that the only existing guerilla front of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)-New People’s Army (NPA)-National Democratic Front (NDF) in the Ilocos region, the Komiteng Larangang Gerilya-South Ilocos Sur or the KLG-SIS, has been dismantled.
He said Region 1 has been freed of armed insurgents due to the collaborative efforts of the Armed Forces and the Philippine National Police, elected leaders, national government agencies (NGAs), civil society organizations, and Ilocanos.
“Let’s all continue working and supporting each other under our whole-of-nation approach,” Esperon added.
During his visit at NOLCOM Headquarters, Gapay awarded battle campaign streamers to Joint Task Force Kaugnay and Joint Task Group Defenders for dismantling Komiteng Larangang Gerilya South Ilocos Sur; and Joint Task Force Tala and Joint Task Group Liberator for dismantling Komiteng Larangang Gerilya Quirino-Nueva Vizcaya.
“The battle streamers are manifestations of NOLCOM’s outstanding performance as far as internal security operation is concerned,” the general said.
In terms of territorial defense efforts, Gapay underscored the established facilities in Mavulis Island and the 11 sovereign markers built by NOLCOM in the chain of uninhabited islands which assert the country’s sovereignty in the northern maritime territory.
