Sundance s Black Stories Are More Accessible Than Ever

Sundance s Black Stories Are More Accessible Than Ever The selections at Sundance this year prove how diverse Black storytelling has become. Each year, filmmakers, cinephiles, and the creme-de-la-creme of the entertainment industry make their way to Park City, Utah for the Sundance Film Festival to be the first to watch some of the most buzzed-about films of the year.  People like Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler, and Radha Blank have had career-defining moments at Sundance. This year, just like every other major cultural event, the largest independent film festival in the United States will look very different. Instead of gathering in theaters, coffee shops, and parties, Sundance attendees will be convening around their screens from the comfort and safety of their homes.

Black Filmmaker Turns Viral Airbnb Police Exchange Into Inspiration for Short Film Set to Unveil at Sundance Film Festival

A new movie short directed by a Black filmmaker gives a raw take on racial injustice and will be showcased at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah this month. “Black Bodies,” a four-minute film vignette about the impact of deadly police violence against the Black community, is slated to make its United States premiere Jan. 28 at the nation’s largest independent film festival. The movie was shot last year just outside of Toronto. It portrays a Black man who steps into an empty warehouse and finds the bodies of all the victims of fatal police encounters strewn across the floor. The man, played by poet/artist Komi Olaf, is left to grapple with his own internal turmoil at the sight of his fallen brethren.
