She was stationed at Delft Police Station, but was off duty at the time on the incident.
Her 3-year-old grandson was among three people wounded and rushed to hospital.
The gunmen fled the scene in a white Toyota Avanza.
While presenting quarterly crime statistics on Friday, Police Minister Bheki Cele said 24 police officers had been killed in the first three months of this year.

Nafiz Modack will spend at least another week in custody after his bail application was postponed.
This after the magistrate who was supposed to hear the application was reportedly involved in an accident .
News24 understands he was hit in a shooting which claimed the life of a lieutenant colonel on Sunday.
The bail application of alleged underworld figure Nafiz Modack was postponed on Monday due to the unavailability of the magistrate, who was understood to have been wounded in a shooting in which a Cape Town police officer was killed.
Modack, Zane Kilian and alleged money launderer Ricardo Morgan are accused of the murder of Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) detective Charl Kinnear.

CAPE TOWN - The magistrate presiding over a case against suspected crime boss Nafiz Modack was shot and wounded in an attack that left a senior police officer dead.
The Justice Department confirmed that Magistrate A Mashala was wounded in Sunday’s shooting at a carwash in Mfuleni.
On Monday, Modack and Kilian’s bail hearing was postponed to 24 May.
They face charges including the murder of Kinnear, a murder attempt on prominent lawyer William Booth in April 2020, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, money laundering, corruption, and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act and the Electronic Communications Act.
The prospects of Kilian and Modack being released on bail appear slim.
They are charged with a Schedule Six offence, which requires proof that exceptional circumstances exist for their release on bail, and that it would be in the interests of justice.
Also weighing heavily against them is that they are accused of murdering a police officer, a crime for which the prescribed minimum sentence is life imprisonment.
