The local NGO One Book-One Community has launched a project to provide mini-libraries in the form of specially designed four-tier bookcases with roofs sheltering them and built-in donation boxes that will be placed at public locations throughout the capital.
The current use of the Khmer language in Cambodian society is a source of controversy because too many speakers have become disinterested in its proper daily use and that this inattentiveness to language can lead to anarchy and immorality in society, according to local linguists.
Khmer-language author Troeung Ngea, who wrote books about ancient Khmer civilisation and a history of the Khmer people, passed away at the age of 83 at 7am on August 28, after a lengthy period of illness.

Writing contest set for 2021

The Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts has announced it will hold the Indradevi Literary Competition for 2021, selecting winning compositions among short stories, novellas and poems for publication later next year.
In a description issued on December 15, the ministry said the contest seeks to preserve cultural values and promote national literature. Submissions will be accepted until June 30 of next year and five contest winners will receive cash and prizes.
Writers who want to enter the contest are welcome to select topics expressing morality and virtue. Compositions should use artistic styles which demonstrate the values of cultural sophistication, education and national identity.
