Justice fight for Ryan goes on despite law change setback

Hiking challenge planned to mark Ryan Passey s 28th birthday

APRIL 29 should have been an annual highlight in the calendar but for the family of Ryan Passey who was stabbed to death in a Stourbridge nightspot it s now a painful reminder of the birthdays he will never celebrate. It s been nearly four years since the popular footballer, who ran a successful window cleaning business, lost his life after he was fatally wounded with a single blow to the chest in the crowded Ryemarket bar on August 6, 2017. But the pain of losing him never goes away for his dad Adrian, mum Gillian, step-dad Phil and Ryan s many friends. Determined to keep his memory alive, however, they are planning a charity fundraising walk to remember Ryan and to help raise funds for their continuing fight for justice.

Family of Ryan Passey to press ahead with civil case

Ryan Passey THE family of Ryan Passey have vowed to press ahead with plans for civil action against the man who stabbed their son after he failed to respond to court papers. Ryan s dad Adrian Passey confirmed in December that he was beginning legal proceedings on behalf of his 24-year-old son, who was knifed and killed in a Stourbridge nightspot on August 6, 2017. Kobe Murray, who was 19 at the time, was acquitted after a criminal trial at Birmingham Crown Court in February 2018 of both murder and manslaughter charges after claiming self-defence. Ryan s family and supporters, however, branded the verdict perverse as Murray from Dudley had admitted to the jury that he had stabbed out at keen footballer Ryan, from Quarry Bank, during a fracas at what was Chicago s nightclub.

Call for jury trials review gives hope to Justice for Ryan team

Ryan Passey A WATCHDOG S call for a review of the system of jury trials has given new hope to a Stourbridge family who have been fighting for a law change in memory of their son. The Justice for Ryan campaign has been calling for legislative changes to allow families of the victims of serious crime the chance to appeal in cases of so-called perverse verdicts where jurors have, contrary to evidence in presented in court, acquitted the defendant. They would also like to see juries give reasons for their verdict in addition to simply declaring a defendant guilty or not guilty.
