what the republican hopefuls have to do or face elimination. the breakdown and the tin sights from nbc news political team is coming up. but first, tensions are rising between police and those occupy wall street demonstrators. officers fired tear gas on protesters in oakland last night after an early morning raid on the movement s encampment. police say those protesters were throwing rocks and bottles. in atlanta, police stormed a downtown park overnight. they arrested dozens of protesters there, even dragging some of them out. kntv s kristi smith joins me now from oakland with the latest on the situation there. kristi, good morning. reporter: good morning to you, chris. well, i can tell you, there are at least a dozen protesters still out here this morning. some of them spent the night and actually were arrested yesterday and came right back out here. but they have no access to city hall or franco galla plaza in front of city hall where they were camped out, because police barrica
protesters out of oakland right now. they ve spent weeks camped out in front of city hall, then early this morning pacific time police started cuffing the demonstrators and leading them away. police are, in fact, telling those who work downtown to put off starting their day. kntv s bob rodell is live in oakland for us. i understand you ve had to take shelter in your van. what s going on out there? reporter: well, there were some people with occupy oakland who had some choice words for us on air so i figured it would be better if we were able to sit in a van. good morning to you, chris. if you look out to the right you ll see snow park, one of two locations of the occupy oakland movement here in oakland. this is by lake merit, about 45 minutes to an hour ago oakland s finest, you can see them right there, descended on the park and they took away perhaps 10 to 15 protesters. they ve been camped out. you may be able to see some of the tents that were here. like i said, this was one of t
northeast as the low continues to lift out. winds gusting to 35 miles an hour in boston. otherwise not bad at all. look at the temperatures, 74 in pittsburgh, nice change from the weekend. 87 in tampa. really warm weather building into the northern plains. that 86 in minneapolis, 30 degrees above average. there is your rain and snow across the west that s going to continue for the next few days. chris, back to you. thank you so much, carl. speaking of the west coast, northern california getting some new information from our folks there at kntv. they have confirmed three people have been killed at the shooting in a mining operation in cupertino, but they do hear that there may be a fourth. we do know eight people in all were shot. we believe the gunman, a worker there, is still at large. they know who he is but have not released his name. and contacted police somehow on a police radio to say that he was going to shoot more people. so obviously a dangerous and volatile situation there.
