Knox County health officials doubt vaccine will be available for expanded groups

GALESBURG The state of Illinois has hopes to soon expand its vaccination program into a larger pool of individuals on Feb. 25. Based on the way vaccine supply has been distributed as of late, the Knox County Unified Command is not sure it will be able to follow this guidance for some time. Pritzker announced Wednesday that the state would extend vaccine eligibility to people with pre-existing conditions including diabetes, heart disease, COPD and obesity starting Feb. 25.  In Knox County, where work is still less than half completed in vaccinating the approximately 10,000 county residents who are 65 or older, it is unlikely that the Knox County Unified Command, OSF St. Mary Medical Center and Cottage Hospital will be able to meet the increased demand from these new vaccination groups.

Test positivity rate in Knox County finally drops below state benchmark

Test positivity rate in Knox County finally drops below state benchmark GALESBURG The Knox County Health Department announced 100 new COVID-19 cases Friday that were detected between Tuesday and Thursday in the county. The new positive cases include 32 female and 68 male individuals. While rates of infection remain high in the county, Knox County has made its way off of the State of Illinois COVID level orange advisories. The advisories, meant to assess whether counties are meeting targets for COVID-19 mitigation strategies, have held Knox alongside much of the state since the most recent wave of COVID began in the late fall.
