The Indian cricket team under Virat Kohli faced its worst hour of embarrassment while collapsing to its lowest Test score of 36 as a rampaging Australia cruised to an emphatic eight-wicket victory inside two and a half days in the opening day/night Test here on Saturday.
There were no demons in the pitch but Josh Hazlewood (5-3-8-5) and Patrick Cummins (10.2-4-21-4) displayed fast bowling of highest quality, the impact of which will be far-reaching with three more Tests to go.

In a jaw-dropping act of meek surrender in Adelaide on Saturday, India lost eight wickets for just 27 runs inside the first session to finish their second innings at 36 their lowest ever Test total.
The Indian innings ended in a way that was reflective of their entire second innings. Mohammed Shami was hit on the arm by a Pat Cummins delivery and couldn t continue batting. He had to retire hurt with India s score reading 36 and leaving Australia a target of 90.

Shami suffers injury, taken to hospital for scans

Adelaide: Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s participation in the remainder of the Test series against Australia was thrown into doubt on Saturday, with skipper Virat Kohli revealing that he was unable to even lift his hands.
Shami, who suffered a wrist injury during the third day of the opening Day/Night Test at the Adelaide Oval, was taken to the hospital for scans.
The fast bowler was hit on the elbow by a Pat Cummins short ball during India’s second innings which ended at a record lowest 36 for nine.
Wade, who opens for Australia in T20s, has never batted at that spot in Tests. His elevation allowed rookie Cameron Green to take the number six spot. .
