Lars Tiffany woke up Sunday morning a little bit sad. The Cavaliers had just flexed their muscle in a 20-11 win against Towson inside Klockner Stadium.
But then, it was another long layover, two weeks before their Loyola game.
“Man I wish we had a game this upcoming week,” Tiffany recalls saying. “Once you start the season, you just want to keep playing.”
That changed quickly, and almost immediately a Top 20 matchup against Army was on the books. Tiffany and his staff were breaking down film Sunday when he saw missed calls and a text from coach Joe Alberici. By 3:30 p.m. Sunday the game was locked in.

It felt fresh and new, but shockingly familiar for No. 6 Virginia in its 20-11 win against Towson on Saturday.
The trio of Payton Cormier (6G, 1A), Connor Shellenberger (4, 3) and Charlie Bertrand (4, 2) combined for 20 points, and the Cavaliers showed the traits of their 2019 title run in an explosive debut to their 2021 campaign.
“I feel like I’ve been waiting my whole life with this,” said Shellenberger, who played in high school at nearby St. Anne’s Belfield. “Especially after that redshirt year last year, it was really good to be here at Klockner and get that first win.”

Often called ‘Ally’s little sister’ growing up, Sammy Mueller carved her own path before playing out her final season where her sister’s college career began.
March 12, 2020 should have been a memorable and exciting day. It was supposed to be another hard-fought ACC game against Syracuse and one of the final few games for me and my fellow seniors to put on a Virginia jersey at Klockner Stadium. Yet, it turned out to be memorable for all the wrong reasons when the ACC canceled that game and later the entire season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Suddenly, my senior season, and last spring semester as a student-athlete, was over in the blink of an eye.
