More than 60 years ago, Warren Fudge stepped onto the stage of Sturgis Public Schools history.
He arrived in the city in 1957, hired as superintendent, and worked at the school until 1974, when he was hired as superintendent at Calhoun County Intermediate School District.
He wasn t away from the Sturgis community for long. When Fudge passed away Feb. 20, 2021 he was at his home on Klinger Lake at age 97.
His legacy as an influential educational leader and gentleman endures in the community.
Larry McConnell followed Fudge and served as Sturgis superintendent slightly longer than his predecessor.
“He was certainly a gentleman,” McConnell said. Certainly a conscientious superintendent. The district was in pretty good order when I came.
