From Jada Pinkett-Smith s new body care line to a Gwyneth Paltrow-approved carbon-neutral beauty label, these brands make it easier to shop consciously.
It s never been easier to be a green beauty buff during the ongoing climate crisis. But thanks to greenwashing, even the most environmentally mindful shoppers must sort through a sea of so-called sustainable products that don t live up to the eco seal. A few examples: Formulas marketed as all-natural despite the massive carbon footprint required to manufacture them, or deceptively beautiful packaging that distracts from unrecyclable containers.
While the most sustainable act is to not buy anything at all, shopping with Mother Earth in mind can still be a guilt-free experience. Some of the best sustainable beauty brands are taking a step in the right direction and simplifying retail therapy for conscious consumers with high-performance cosmetics in innovative packaging or carbon-neutral skincare.
Happy Earth Day. To mark this occasion – a time to celebrate environmental protection –
WH challenged beauty writer Gabrielle Dyer to overhaul her entire beauty routine, from skin to haircare and everything in between, for sustainable swaps. Here s how it went.
Unsurprisingly, given my day job as a beauty writer, my bathroom shelf and make-up bag are overflowing with wonders. Sleek-looking serums, luxurious lipsticks and jewel-encrusted palettes. They make for aesthetically pleasing photos, but, on closer inspection, they’re looking less and less attractive.
Why? Their eco credentials – or lack thereof. So, in search of a happy middle ground, I transformed my routine with sustainability in mind – to road-test products that focus on eco-friendly packaging, ethical manufacturing processes and sustainably sourced ingredients, as well as fair trade policies for workers and farmers.
