Waikato District Health Board has taken its biggest step forward in its COVID-19 vaccination programme, with the blessing of its largest vaccination centre.
At full capacity, the Te Awa site at The Base in Hamilton, will be able to vaccinate up to 1000 people a day, seven days a week. The centre will be by appointment only, with the first vaccinations to begin on 20 July.

The Restaurant Association s annual report shows eateries were struck hard by Covid-19 but are slowly recovering.
Hospitality businesses that encounter a Covid-19 case should be given a grant for deep cleaning and to hire a PR specialist to battle brand damage, the Restaurant Association has told Treasury. The association’s taskforce made future alert level proposals to Treasury in the event the country has to go back into lockdown. New Zealand is at alert level 1 with no community cases since late September. This week the government announced a new support scheme for businesses affected by a move up alert levels, which the association said took into account some of its suggestions.

The Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) announced the winners for its Inaugural Pacific Cooperation Foundation Youth Leadership Awards at Parliament on Wednesday.
The awards ceremony was hosted by the Hon Aupito William Sio, Minister for Pacific Peoples and Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs.
PCF lead/management consultant Afamasaga Jackie Curry said, “The aim of the PCF Youth Leadership Awards is to encourage and reward service leadership to benefit our communities not just in Aotearoa New Zealand, but also the Pacific region.
“Pacific people are a growing, youthful and diverse population both in New Zealand and in the Pacific region, so these awards acknowledge and encourage the contribution and achievements of our young Pacific emerging leaders as well as their families who support them,” Afamasaga said.
