Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs call for development moratorium

By Lynda Powless Editor The Haudenosaunee Confederacy Chiefs Council (HCCC) announced Tuesday they have called for a moratorium on development within the Haldimand Tract The HCCC announced outside the Onondaga Longhouse Tuesday, April 20, 2021 that all development must stop.throughout the tract that stretches 111,000 hectares or six miles (10 km) on either side of the Grand River from its source to its mouth on Lake Erie. The tract includes some of the largest cities in southern Ontario including Kitchener-Waterloo Cambridge, Brantford and towns like Caledonia. Cayuga Chief Roger Silversmith ( Deyohowe:to, Cayuga Snipe) said the HCC wants an accounting of all land and financial transactions that have taken place throughout the tract He said the HCCC does “not respect fraudulent” transactions.
