AEW Dark recap (May 4, 2021): Leyla Hirsch picks up signature win Share this story Episode 87 of AEW Dark featured Leyla Hirsch earning a signature win, Dante Martin on a hot streak, and Lance Archer hossing it up with Luther. When the Dark lineup was announced, there was one match in particular that I was looking forward to. That would be Leyla Hirsch versus Diamante. Both have unique styles backed up by fierce intensity. This bout was set up last week during Dark: Elevation when Diamante displayed poor sportsmanship after losing a tag match to Hirsch and Ryo Mizunami. The two competitors tussled on the mat to start. Diamante escaped a rear waist lock with a back elbow and countered into a cazadora stunner. Hirsch rallied with two German suplexes, a running knee, corner smashes, and a side suplex. Diamante still had enough juice to kick out of the cover. Fisticuffs were engaged with both wrestlers swinging wildly. Hirsch used a trip to take down Diamante then transition in

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means. Ricky Starks joined Excalibur and Taz on commentary for the first few matches. The show kicked off with a vignette with Darby Allin promoting his TNT title defense against Jungle Boy tomorrow night. Allin’s promo had a heelish bent to it. Joey Janela (w/ Sonny Kiss) defeated Will Allday (5:32) Allday looked good here, hitting a tope suicida on the floor but later missed a senton bomb. Janela went for a brainbuster, but Allday reversed into a brainbuster of his own. Allday also hit a top rope frankensteiner, but whiffed on a moonsault press. Janela hit a death valley driver for the win.

Dark started out with a Darby Allin video package cutting a promo to Jungle Boy. Allin told Jungle Boy that he wants him to show up Wednesday and that he has to turn that switch and fight him. Allin closed the video by saying if he wants to win the championship to turn that switch… Briar’s Take: A nice video package that was refreshing to open up Dark for a change. It would be nice if AEW used Dark more to hype up their Wednesday shows, even if it’s a video package like this. Excalibur then welcomed us to Dark and was joined on commentary by Taz and special guest Ricky Starks…
