Nepal SC to start preliminary hearings on house dissolution ANI 26 May 2021, 00:56 GMT+10 Kathmandu [Nepal], May 25 (ANI): Nepal s Supreme Court has announced dates for preliminary hearing starting from Thursday over writ petitions filed against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HOR). As many as 30 writ petitions have been filed at the apex court, out of which 19 writ petitions have sought interim order and hearing in the ordinary session and 11 sought a hearing in the Constitutional bench. According to Kishor Poudel, the communication expert at the Supreme Court, hearings on 19 petitions in ordinary session will be held on Thursday and hearings on the remaining 11 petitions in the Constitutional bench will be held on Friday.

The opposition alliance with the signature of 146 lawmakers has filed the writ petition against the decision to dissolve the house, Kishor Poudel, a communication expert at the Supreme Court, told Xinhua. They have also demanded the court s order to appoint Deuba (Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba) as the prime minister. Those involved in the legal action include 61 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, 49 from the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), 23 from the Madhav Nepal-Jalanath Khanal faction of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist and Leninist), 12 from the Upendra Yadav-Baburam Bhattarai faction of the Janata Samajbadi Party and one from Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal.

He called for elections in April and May. More than a dozen writs were filed in the Supreme Court challenging his decision, while a wave of protests and clashes took place in the streets. The Supreme Court has ordered to reinstate the dissolved House of Representatives after concluding that the government s decision was unconstitutional and against parliamentary practises, Kishor Poudel, the press expert at the Supreme Court, told AFP. Poudel said the court had ordered a session of parliament within 13 days.
