Kisan Diwas, or Farmers Day, is observed annually on December 23 in India to honour the millions of farmers who toil hard to ensure the nation doesn t go hungry.
The day also commemorates the 5th Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh, who was born on this day and introduced farmer-friendly policies and worked for the welfare of farmers. He served in office between July 1979 and January 1980.
The day is marked with various programs, debates, seminars, quiz competitions, discussions, and exhibitions in schools, colleges, and institutes. This year, however, the observance will mostly be limited to the online space due to the coronavirus pandemic.
