Man who attacked pensioner in sustained assault carried knife and pistol A MAN who attacked a pensioner in his own home also carried a pistol and a large knife.  Matthew Smith, 23, of Milton Road, Waterlooville, was sentenced to eight years in prison yesterday (Thursday 28 January) at Portsmouth Crown Court for firearms and knife offences and an attempted robbery. He was sentenced for possession of a firearm without a certificate and possession of a knife in a public place in relation to an incident that took place in September 2019. On September 16, 2019, after a report from a member of the public, Smith was arrested by officers leaving Fratton train station after being found in possession of a pistol and a large knife. No-one was injured.

Prolific burglar jailed following crime spree across Hampshire

A MAN who went on a four-and-a-half-month burgling spree across Hampshire has been jailed for three years. Sonnie Marsh, 23, pleaded guilty to seven counts of burglary, seven counts of fraud by false representation and one count of handling stolen goods following incidents at various locations in Winchester, Liphook, Portsmouth, Southsea. These incidents occurred between August 19 last year and January 5. Portsmouth Crown Court heard on the 15 January how Marsh, of Victoria Road North, Southsea, had begun his spree of offending at a pub in Winchester when he stole a charity pot containing £250. He was found later that day attempting to gain entry into a school in Winchester with a view to stealing property.
