Barnaby Joyce criticises Malcolm Turnbull for supporting independent candidate in byelection

Nationals MP Barnaby Joyce has criticised his former colleague Malcolm Turnbull's support of Upper Hunter Independent candidate Kirsty O'Connell. The former prime minister and his wife each donated $3,000 to the independent candidate running in today's byelection, who supports a moratorium on coal. Mr Joyce expressed his anger saying "Malcolm has turned into the most bitter ghost of the lot". "You're actually out there Malcolm, campaigning against the people who made you the prime minister of Australia," he said. "Can't you see there's just something not quite right about that? Some inkling of a sense of duty, that would say to you, why would I do that?" Mr Turnbull didn't stand alongside his preferred candidate today.
