In an interaction here, senior Toyota executives emphasised on the need to treat all technologies fairly to achieve carbon reduction goals. Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing Co-Executive Vice President Pras Ganesh said India is large enough to utilise multiple solutions, including hybrid and battery electric technologies.
"The hybrid electric vehicle we think is maybe an optimal solution to begin scale in terms of electrification..around 40 per cent of the distance and around 60 per cent of the time on a hybrid electric vehicle based on Indian statistical testing, is actually on zero emission," Toyota Daihatsu Engineering and Manufacturing Co Executive Vice President Pras Ganesh said.

The automobile industry in India has praised the launch of the country s first crash testing program, Bharat NCAP. The program aims to improve road safety standards by implementing an authentic and objective rating system for vehicles. Car manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Renault have expressed their support for the program and have committed to offering models for testing.
Automakers are required to have 50% domestic value addition in products to be eligible for claiming subsidies. While Tata Motors received certification from ARAI for the Tiago EV earlier this month, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility got certification for its electric three-wheeler in June 2023.
