Rosedale Abbey
This walk begins in the picturesque village of Rosedale Abbey – itself a slight misnomer since there never was an abbey here, only a priory, and precious little remains even of that, its stones having been absorbed into the buildings that surround the village green.
We have a new walk around Kirkham Abbey in our April/May 2021 issue. On sale 21st April.
All the routes were correct at the time of publication, over time access to certain parts of the walk may be subject to change. We advise you acquire a recent OS map of the area you plan to visit and confirm there are no major changes.
THIS week’s selection of readers’ photographs are showcasing the emerging season in Ryedale. A picture of a friendly farm animal never fails to make you smile, and this sheep taken by George Tremain in Rosedale certainly knows its best angle. Similarly, a highland cow captured by Sharon Marwood in Lastingham certainly knows how to strike a pose. Meanwhile, Daniel Medelete and Andrew Robinson have submitted two great pictures capturing on camera our beautiful surroundings. For Daniel it was a view of Castle Howard, and for Andrew a sunrise over Crambe. Speaking of beautiful surroundings, Louise Sturdy captured a gang of sheep taking a break in Ampleforth.
