Big Sur travel: Where to stay, what to do, where to eat

Northern California s most beautiful places to visit

Road trip to the Big Sur coast and Pinnacles National Park

My wife and I are cautiously breaking out of a COVID-19 funk. Now fully-vaccinated and with a number of Californians either fully or on their way to being fully-vaccinated, we’re thinking we can resume more routine travel, even though we plan to keep continue pandemic precautions. Hence, we have spent recent weeks wondering and plotting where we can camp with our little trailer in uncrowded spaces. We haven’t spent much time on the Big Sur coast south of Monterey in several years and had not been to Pinnacles National Park for even longer. Hence, exploring campgrounds through recreation.gov, we booked several days on the Big Sur coast, followed by three days in the national park, just inland.

Los Padres National Forest officials said closure of the 2020 Dolan Fire burn scar in the Monterey Ranger District was revised to reopen many popular roads and trails while keeping the 124,924-acre fire perimeter closed to the public.
