Wall Street pointed toward gains ahead of the release of data that are expected to show the world’s biggest economy slowing in the first quarter of the year, even as major companies continue to beat earnings expectations. Futures for the Dow rose 0.4% and futures for the S&P 500 were up 0.5% before the bell Thursday. Facebook parent company Meta jumped 12% after its first-quarter results beat Wall Street’s modest expectations on both profit and revenue. Southwest Airlines slumped 4.5% before the bell after it reported losing $159 million in the period that included a December meltdown with thousands of canceled flights.
