Dharmendra Vavliya, who joined the BJP from the AAP, asked if an elected councillor's works are not getting done, how much the public would have to suffer.
In a video on the social media post, Vavliya on Sunday said that the “purpose of leaving the AAP and joining the BJP was to get the basic development work done in his ward”.
In 2021, AAP had emerged as main opposition party in Surat Municipal Corporation, since then 12 have left and 2 come back. Its MLAs also seen as under pressure from BJP
The six councillor include Ashok Dhami (housing project), Kiran Khokhani (social welfare and recreational cultural committee), Ghanshyam Makwana (light and fire committee), Patel Nirali (health committee), Dharmendra Vavaliya (transport mobility committee) and Swati Kayda (law committee).
Six corporators of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in Surat municipality switched sides to join the ruling BJP on Friday late in the night. The councillors tendered their resignations "willingly" and joined the BJP in presence of the Home Minister of Gujarat Harsh Sanghvi and other leaders at the party headquarters in Gandhinagar Friday midnight.
